News
For the first time, UC Davis hosted the NIRCA Pacific Regional. Since the UC Davis campus course was permanently closed, the team executed the race in Sonora at the Wildcat Ranch XC Course, a scenic and challenging all-dirt path through oak woodlands and grasslands with awesome views, hard-packed dirt, banked turns, 50% shade, rolling hills, and a few steep grades. The running gods brought excellent weather on race day, including cool temps, a light breeze, and overcast skies. It rained during the awards ceremony, but hey, if everything went perfectly, it wouldn't be worth remembering! Overall, the Aggies placed 2nd in both the women's and men's races, and took home five All-Region titles. Our own Ethan Brooks was the men's Regional Champion, and Frank Ramisch was runner-up. Abigail Binder finished runner-up for the women. Due to their placing, both the men's and women's teams will advance to the NIRCA National Championships in Richmond, Virginia, on November 12th. Go Ags! |

BREAKING NEWS:UC Davis Sport Clubs has put all in-person activities on hold until further notice. While we are optimistic that the global health situation will improve, it is highly unlikely that any races will commence, or that we will be allowed to attend. All UC Davis classes for spring, summer, and fall quarter have been converted to online only, but the campus remains open for use. Please check back here regularly for updates, and keep running and exercising, solo. It's the best way to keep your spirits up right now, and the best way to stay healthy. We'll pull through--go Ags! 3/8/20 The Ags attended the Kim Duyst Invite on Saturday, where blustery conditions made for an interesting race day. A team favorite, this open invitational is led by Stan State's fabulous distance coach, Darren Holman. Darren has coached several XCTF club athletes over the years through his youth program, Foothill Gold, including All-Americans Chris Myers and Clancy McConnell, both part of the 2015 NIRCA XC champion team. Darren's son, Broen, whom he also coaches, just snatched the world record in the 5K for 13-year-old males! 2/29/20 BREAKING NEWS: Coach and founder Nathan Kwan ran in the U.S. Olympic marathon trails on Saturday in Atlanta, GA. Averaging 5:25/mi, he placed 71st out of 175, meaning our own local legend is one of the fastest men in the country! 2/27/20 BREAKING NEWS: Our own incredible distance coach, Nathan Kwan, was just featured on Good Day Sacramento in two segments, the Davis Enterprise, and Capital Public Radio for his qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, which he will compete in this Saturday (2/29) in Atlanta, GA. The race, which starts at 9:08 AM Pacific Time (not a typo - 9:08 AM) can be watched live on TV, the internet, or on mobile via NBC. 2/23/20 The club volunteered at the Davis Stampede last Sunday. While a few of our athletes ran in the races, many more helped direct traffic, manage the course, or distribute race packets. A Change of Pace corporation donates a small amount of funds to the team for our help, but volunteering at events like the Stampede is one way we can give back to the Davis running community. 2/22/20 The Ags had another successful early-season effort at the 2nd Cal All Comers meet last Saturday. Beautiful, spring-like weather and good competition helped clear out the post-midterm haze of winter quarter. Sprints, jumps, and distance will all be ready for their first university invite of the season in a couple weeks at Stan State. 2/8/20 Kick-off for track season! The club enjoyed an early season rustbuster at Cal over the weekend, bringing great racing weather and Aggie Spirit with them. The 2nd All-Comers meet will provide another chance to get the legs ready for real track action at the Kim Duyst Invite in March. Individuals will be looking to achieve qualifying standards in March and early April for the more competitive meets in late April and May. 1/19/20 Kick-off for this season's road racing! The club sent 30 members in 10 teams of 3 to the Redding Marathon Relay today, winning awards in multiple relay categories. Alumnus ('17) and All American from the 2015 NIRCA National Champions Team, Blake Zufall, won the overall full marathon title for the 4th time, and his family hosted the entire team, once again! Thank you to the Zufalls! 1/13/20 Winter/Spring racing schedules posted. |

11/16/19
UC Davis repped well at the chilly NIRCA Nats in Richmond, VA, this weekend: the men placed 6th out of 34 teams and Clancy McConnell won the men's individual title. The women made a strong showing, especially considering their much-reduced roster compared to the Regional race and their average class. Both teams are young in class and will likely be sending all the same athletes to Nationals in 2020, plus some speedy additions! The California Aggies weren't phased on race day by the below-freezing temperatures and strong winds, but took the rest of the weekend to fully thaw out.... 11/2/19 At the NIRCA Pacific Regional meet, the Aggies podiumed in both teams: women placed 2nd in the region with a small time spread, and men placed 3rd. Both teams qualified for the NIRCA National Championship meet in Richmond, Virginia, which will be held in two weeks. UC Davis also put forth two All-Region athletes in each race--two men and two women placed in the top ten, and Clancy McConnell won the men's individual title. The Ags will spend the next 13 days preparing to duke it out on the national stage.... 10/19/19 The Aggies sent 24 athletes to the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational, where they made a threatening showing to the regional club teams and collected numerous impressive PRs. Perfect racing weather, a flat course in the south bay, and a nice spread of competition helped to set the tone for the upcoming NIRCA Regional race, also in the south bay. 10/7/19 Congratulations to our distance coach and founder, Nathan Kwan, for qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials! Nathan ran 63:50, 10 seconds under the OTQ standard, in the San José Rock 'n' Roll half marathon on October 6th. See results. He will spend the next four months training for the trials, where he's going to give the sponsored pros a run for their money! On a normal day, you can find Nathan teaching chemistry and physics to his high school students and running or coaching at practice. 9/29/19 The Aggies sent 18 athletes to the early-season Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento. Fair weather and a fresh start to the school year made for a solid race day and the perfect kick-off to cross country season. 9/26/19 Welcome to fall quarter, 2019! |
