Welcome to the XCTF club, an official student-run sport club at UC Davis. We welcome runners and fielders of all abilities, from beginners and social joggers to highly competitive athletes. We hold practice and attend racing events all school year, including out-of-town and out-of state meets, as well as community races. Though originally a cross country-focused club, our team now also has squads training for all types of events in track and field, marathons, ultra-marathons, trail races, and more. It's never "too late" join the club--you can join at any time in the school year to run with us. Both undergraduate and graduate students are in the club, and there are no "try-outs!" All are welcome to come out and join a close-knit team and community!

Under COVID-19, we are not allowed to meet in-person but are accepting new members and will be hosting virtual practices and fun events, including virtual races! Email us to get signed up (davisxctclub@gmail.com) or visit our About and Join tabs to get more information. As of right now, there is no in-person practice, but normally we would encourage prospective recruits to come to practice, held at 4:30 pm (not 4:10) every weekday from Toomey Field/Woody Wilson Track, on the northeast corner of campus (see bottom of page; lockers provided). For now, run with friends if you can do so safely, and keep getting your workouts in!

Check out our Running Routes for ideas on places to run!
Co-Membership Officer Priyanka gave a primer to some of our most common running routes over the weekend. The presentation slides are in the Training tab under Files, titled "Intro to Running Routes."

Watch our Intro to Training video!
Coach Nathan and TA Clancy hosted a training primer for the team last week, and the recording has been uploaded to our YouTube channel. They go over training principles for XC and T/F athletes, principles which form the structure of our training plan, and include tips and strategies for how to make the most of training during COVID.

Welcome to Fall!
Follow our Instagram and sign up for emails to stay involved. We've already hosted a movie night, fall training has started, and we've scheduled our first race--a virtual charity race for an organization that tackles food insecurity: "World Food Run."

Fall quarter practices have been cancelled until further notice
UC Davis Sport Clubs has officially cancelled fall quarter practices and prohibited gatherings of any size. Athletes may run and exercise on campus, including on the track, as long as they follow distancing guidelines. You may run with friends in non-affiliated rendezvous as long as you keep distance.

Moove Your Hooves was a success!
Thank you, donors!

Thanks to donors and participants, we raised over $1,000 in our virtual event, and because there were no overhead costs this year, we matched the bankable amount we raised with last year's event! To take the place of our MYH race, we held a virtual race, where participants could upload their results and a picture from their fitness challenge, 5k or otherwise. Here is the link to the picture and video submissions (use UC Davis email to login). We'd like to extend a special thanks to family and friends of the XCTF club!

IMPORTANT: Sign the petition to save Crystal Springs XC Course!
Crystal Springs XC course has been the NIRCA Regionals XC course for many years. Our team has competed at--and won many times--the October race in the beautiful Belmont Hills on the San Francisco peninsula. The College of San Mateo, which manages the permit for Crystal Springs XC Course and maintains it, has voted to close the facility because their own XC team rarely uses it. Hundreds of thousands of elementary school, high school, and college students have raced there since 1971. Even this year, the course was booked all of cross country season. Please sign this petition to support keeping the course open, in some capacity. Other options for the future of the course include having a different agency take over the permit, or acquiring financial support from other agencies to maintain the facility long-term.

This year, MYH has become a virtual event! All you have to do is register, choose your donation amount, do your own virtual fitness challenge, and upload your activity by May 16th! What this means is that after you've done your fitness challenge, submit your time and upload a picture of you doing your challenge here. For extra fame, submit to our Instagram page (ucdavisxctfclub)! If you don't want to do a fitness challenge but would like to donate, you can do so here. Thank you for supporting the UCDXTF club!

A message from our club president:

Dear Club Members,

We are living in an unusual time which has presented us with uncertainty, disappointment, and anxiety, but I implore you to rise above these challenges. In light of the current pandemic facing the world, all official spring practices, meets, and events have been suspended until further notice. Training plans and workouts will still be provided by our coaches for you to implement into your training during this season. This pandemic does not mean we have to sit on the couch all day on Zoom. If you train with others during this time, please do not make physical contact with them. For us athletes, running and training brings us health and happiness, so don't let that slip away from you during these times if you are in good health and have the ability to get out. Encourage your teammates! We don't know what the future holds, so stay positive and stay strong! We will get through this together! The light is always at the end of the tunnel. "100% of me is nothing compared to 1% of the team, that's teamwork and that's what I value" - Eliud Kipchoge.

GO AGGIES!!!

President of UCDXCTF Club,
Devan Becker

Registration is now available for Moove Your Hooves, our signature 5K race! Winding through iconic sections of campus, it's a fun and family-friendly event, scheduled for May 16th. MYH is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and helps provide funds for race registration, travel costs, uniforms, dues, and more. Due to ongoing fundraising efforts like this, we are one of the most affordable student organizations on campus. Support the club, sign up now, and share the event with the whole herd!

Coach and founder Nathan Kwan ran in the U.S. Olympic marathon trails on Saturday in Atlanta, GA. Averaging 5:25/mi, he placed 71st out of 175, meaning our own local legend is one of the fastest men in the country! The race was broadcast live on TV, the internet, and mobile via NBC.

Nathan was also featured on Good Day Sacramento in two segments, the Davis Enterprise, and Capital Public Radio for his qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials using a half marathon standard from the San Jose Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon.
